The University

Utrecht University was founded in 1636. It is the largest university of the Netherlands, with an enrollment of about 24,500 students. The department of Computer Science currently consists of 120 students, 8 full professors (each running a specific research group), and about 120 other research staff (assistant and associate professors, post-docs, and Ph.D. students). It has been rated as the number one CS department in a national survey two years running, both by students and peer review.

Geometry, Imaging, and Virtual Environments group

The department's GIVE group specializes in 2D and 3D multimedia research. Topics of interest include computational geometry, multimedia retrieval (2D and 3D shape retrieval, music retrieval), and virtual environments.

Research Tasks Involvement

For Aim@Shape we are involved in the following research tasks: 5.4 (point cloud matching), 5.5 (human shape reconstruction), 6.5 (skeletal structures), and 7.4 (semantics of virtual humans).

Consequently we are also contributing to the State-of-the-art reports of work packages 5, 6, and 7.

Other Tasks Involvement

The tasks of WP1 (as all partners are), 2.1 (shape repository) and 2.2 (tools repository), 3.1 (web portal), and 8.1 (training).
