ICT 2008 Networking - build future partnerships
For the ICT 2008 event the FOCUS K3D consortium proposed the Networking session "Semantics in 3D Media".The ICT 2008 Networking sessions help researchers identify future research themes and find research partners. Themes and topics are defined by researchers themselves. Over 200 proposals were received by the time the Call for Proposals for Networking Sessions at ICT 2008 closed. Now website visitors can rate them and comment on them, influencing which proposals will be selected for the event taking place in Lyon in November.
The FOCUS K3D consortium proposed the Networking session Semantics in 3D Media.
Semantics in 3D MediaWe present the activities of the FP7 project FOCUS K3D, which promotes the adoption of best practices for using semantics in 3D content modelling and processing. This is followed by an informal discussion, open to all interested parties.
We address 4 domains (CAD/CAE; Bioinformatics; Gaming; Cultural Heritage) where semantic 3D content can answer open problems in content production and processing. We demonstrate the advantages of using semantic 3D shapes through the Digital Shape Workbench that has functionalities for sharing and 3D resources via formalised knowledge.
The aim of this session is to solicit discussion among communities of users for the identification of requirements, desiderata and promising lines of future research for 3D content authoring and processing; establishing new research and business partnerships to carry out these developments. Attendees are invited to become member of Application Working Groups to ensure influence on the development of a research roadmap.
