Call for papers Canadian Semantic Web Working Symposium (CSWWS 2006)

by Riccardo_Albertoni last modified 2005-10-12 14:02

For the Canadian SWWS, the Semantic Web Interest Group (SWIG) is inviting original, relevant (context of the semantic Web), high quality papers from all over the world. Contributions may be full papers, short papers, tutorials proposals or posters. Tutorials should be based on simple concepts, applications and tools of interest to a wide range of public.

Objectives

Since its creation a number of years ago, the World Wide Web has revolutionized the way entertainment, research and business are conducted in modern society. However, most of the current Web is conceived for human understanding whereas applications or software agents have no clue of the meaning of its content. The semantic Web, as an extension of the current Web and a vision, aims to bring structure for computer programs to “understand” and process. In this vision, humans and machines may work in cooperation to reason and solve complex tasks.

The main objective of this symposium in the short term is to contribute to the advancement of the semantic Web by facilitating the exchange of scientific knowledge among researchers in academia, industry and government in Canada and all over the world. In the long term, the SWIG is looking forward to develop a strong presence within the international Semantic Web community and foster a Canadian semantic Web industry.

To reach this objective, the Canadian Semantic Web working Symposium is soliciting papers (full and short), demonstrations, panel discussion and tutorial proposals in basic technology and applications of the semantic Web. Of particular interest are the following topics :

Symposium scope (includes but is not limited to)

* Languages, tools and methodologies for the Semantic Web;
* Semantic Web-based ontology management and engineering;
* Semantic Web Services (description, discovery, invocation, composition);
* Semantic Web-based Knowledge Management;
* Semantic Grid and semantic Grid services;
* Semantic Web for databases;
* Semantic Web Mining ;
* Trust, privacy, security on the Semantic Web;
* Practical applications of the Semantic Web techniques in e-business, e-commerce, e-government and e-learning;
* Artificial intelligence methods and tools for the Semantic Web;
* Software agents on the Semantic Web;
* Visualization and modeling of the semantic Web.

Symposium Organizer

The Canadian Semantic Web Interest Group (SWIG) is a group of researchers supported by the Canadian Society for the Computational Studies of Intelligence (CSCSI). It is made of academic, government and industry representatives promoting emerging Semantic Web research initiatives in academia and industries in Canada with connections to similar groups world-wide.
