The presentation introduces the Product Design domain, shows usage scenarios with associated use cases, and describes the characteristical parts of the Product Design Ontology. Presented by: Neyir Sevilmis
Application examples for Ontologies in the Design context by Neyir Sevilmis — last modified 2006-07-25 13:25
This presentation shows how ontologies, their inference capabilities, synonym tables, and ontology and query mapping mechanisms can be exploited to better support multidisciplinary development groups working in the same domain but having completely different views on commonly used application objects. Presented by: Neyir Sevilmis

Training Session about semantics and ontologies in an example of software application for product design
Geometric constructions for generalized barycentric coordinates by Torsten Langer — last modified 2006-08-03 15:25
Spherical barycentric coordinates are introduced. Analogous to classical barycentric coordinates that describe the positions of points in a plane with respect to the vertices of a given planar polygon, spherical barycentric coordinates describe the positions of points on a sphere with respect to a given spherical polygon. They can be used to define 3D barycentric coordinates for arbitrary polyhedra.
Modeling Non-manifold Shapes (through simplicial meshes) by Laura_Papaleo — last modified 2006-08-08 16:32
This presentation describes the state-of-the-art on modeling and manipulating non-manifold shapes, by focusing on dimension-independent representations based on simplicial meshes. (Lecturer: Leila De Floriani)
Towards semantic modeling applied to car aesthetics: a proposal by Chiara_Catalano — last modified 2006-08-08 19:05
This presentation summarizes the authors’ research activities in the field of modeling tools for aesthetic industrial design. Starting from the requirements of the stylists during the conceptual design phase, geometric tools for shape manipulation have been proposed, which act on the geometric entities significant for the user. The ongoing work aims at integrating such tools in a semantic environment where an ontology has been devised to guide more easily the shaping process through the formalization of the styling activity.

3D Shape Retrieval Using Spherical Harmonics by Panagiotis Papadakis — last modified 2006-08-10 18:26
This presentation gives an introduction on content-based 3D shape retrieval methods, focusing on the category of methods that use spherical harmonics in order to produce a shape descriptor. In particular, the Concrete Radialized Spherical Projection descriptor is presented, which has improved trasformation invariance properties thus enhancing discriminative power and enabling very efficient 3D shape search and retrieval.
Tool Repository General Presentation by Laurent_Saboret — last modified 2006-08-16 18:22
PowerPoint presentation of AIM@SHAPE Tool Repository
Ontology Based Shape Annotation and Retrieval by Olga Symonova — last modified 2006-08-21 10:48
The presentation introduces 3D shape retrival methodology suited for searching in special category of 3D shapes. A mapping between low level features described by the shape descriptor and ontology concepts is performed. The presentation gives the idea how to bridge the gap between keyword-based and query-by-example approaches.
Image-Language Association: are we looking at the right features? by Katerina Pastra — last modified 2006-09-19 13:38
The ever growing popularity and availability of multimedia information has rendered automatic image-language association essential in a number of multimedia integration applications. Bridging the gap between the two media requires an appropriate feature-set for describing their common reference; one that will be both distinctive of the entities referred too and feasible to extract automatically from visual media. In this presentation, we suggest an alternative –to current approaches- feature set, which has been used in OntoVis, a domain model for a prototype that describes three-dimensional (3D) indoor scenes. We argue that it is worth employing this feature-set in a larger scale for image-language association and investigating the feasibility of doing so and of detecting such features automatically even beyond 3D visual data, in 2D images.
