Introduction

The International Summer School on Shape Modeling and Reasoning will focus on representations and computational techniques for modeling and reasoning on digital shapes. A digital shape is any individual object having a visual appearance which exists in a two or higher dimensional space. Pictures, sketches, images, 3D objects, videos, and animations are examples of shapes. Digital shapes are used in many different contexts, including industrial design, biomedical applications, entertainment, environmental monitoring, cultural heritage.

The program will consist of invited lectures, given by leading international scientists in the field, who will present state-of-the-art techniques on shape modeling and understanding, and will bring complementary views of problems and solutions. The school is organized within the EU FP6 Network of Excellence AIM@SHAPE.

Prerequisites

The school is primarily intended for young researchers with some background in computer science, computer engineering, or mathematics. Participants should have basic knowledge of classical algorithms and data structure and of computer graphics.

Student Application

The school will be open to about 50 qualified, motivated and pre-selected students. Ph.D. students, post-docs, young researchers (both academic and industrial) or industrial professionals are encouraged to apply.

• The application will be free and it should be done before 22 May 2007.

The students who will attend the School will have free access to all courses, handling material, coffee breaks, lunches, and a social dinner.
