Giuliana Ucelli is a senior researcher at the Fondazione GraphiTech from February 2003. She received a Ph.D. from the Abacus Unit (Architecture & Building Aids Computer Unit Strathclyde), Department of Architecture & Building Science, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. She graduated in November 2002 with a research work concerning the implementation of a networked collaborative architecture, in Java™ language, for a Virtual Reality design system. She received, with full marks, a master’s degree (laurea) in Building Engineering from the University of Palermo, in 1999. Her final thesis was carried out at the Computer Aided Architecture Design (CAAD) Department of the Lund University, Sweden. Her main skills are in the area of CAAD, 3D modelling, Virtual Reality, architectonic restoration (she attended a specialisation course, in 1998, in restoration of historical buildings at the AERA Association, Palermo, sponsored by the Italian National Research Council, CNR), multimedia applications, network programming in Java™ environment and semantic web technologies. Her current research interests are in the use of emerging semantic web technologies for improving the product design process, knowledge management systems, computer aided architectural design, the application of virtual reality technology to design, development of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) systems and network-based collaborative platforms for design.
